Zidoo has released differential packages on its forum for the Z9X 8K.

Latest Public beta for Z9X 8K, other boxes will follow as testing progresses.

The headline on this one is that Dual Layer Dolby Vision FEL playback support is now live!

This is accessed from the player context menu (press menu when playing back any video) and go to Advanced/FEL Processing Mode > Composition. This setting is persistent.

“Conversion” converts to Profile 8 as previously
“Composition” uses the Full Enhancement Layer if it exists in the file.

(I forget what it defaults to when FEL firmware is first loaded – if someone can tell me, that’d be helpful)

If you want to test FEL playback, this is a test file that I originally made back in 2021 for AVS and has since become ubiquitous for FEL tests.

I recently updated it using tools unavailable to me back then. It consists of a rotating RGB test pattern from the Mehanik Freeware UHD Test Pattern Suite as the Base Layer and the Full Enhancement Layer and RPU comes from the start of Mortal Engines.

If you see the pulsations in the Base Layer that means the Profile 7 RPU Enhancement Layer Remapping is being used (as opposed to being removed for Profile 8) and as the video progresses you’ll see the FEL playing behind the Base Layer.
